28th Shalyapin‘s Opera Festival opens in Kazan

(Kazan, January 8, Tatar-inform). The 28th International Opera Festival named after Fyodor Shalyapin opens today on the stage of Jalil Tatar Academic State Theatre of Opera and Ballet. This year, it has gathered a fascinating entry-list – some 40 performers from the largest Russian theatres and abroad. The festival programme consists of 10 shows – Jalil Tatar Theatre of Opera and Ballet’s best staging of the recent years. Two gala-concerts will close the festival.

By tradition, the festival will open with the theatre’s recent premier – “Madam Butterfly” by G. Puccini. The musical director and conductor of the opera is maestro Gintaras Rinkyavichus (Lithuania).

“European premier of this show took place in Hague on October 8, 2009. The opera attracted attention of critics and theatre directors. From the point of staging culture, musical level, it was assessed as one of the best operas demonstrated in Europe in the recent 10 years,” Jalil Tatar Academic State Theatre of opera and Ballet artistic director of opera, Guzel Khaibullina told at a press-conference.

Shalyapin Festival is major event in Russia’s musical and theatrical life and a unique phenomenon in the modern Russian theatre history.
